The WatchSeriesStream guide

The WatchSeriesStream guide: the streaming originals

The streaming originals

WatchSeriesStream is an English guide to 156 streaming originals: series made for the streaming services rather than for a television channel. They come from eight services, Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Paramount+ and Peacock, and they sit on twelve shelves of thirteen, grouped in three families: Netflix, with four shelves of its own; Prime Video and Hulu, with two shelves each; and the newer services, with one shelf each for Apple TV+, Disney+ and HBO Max and a shared shelf for Paramount+ and Peacock. Every series has an English synopsis, its seasons and episodes, the cast and a Watch now button that opens it on JustWatch, which shows where it can be watched in your country.

The guide runs from 2013, the year Netflix released House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black, the first of its great originals, to 2025, the year of MobLand on Paramount+ and of Pluribus, the series of Vince Gilligan for Apple TV+. Its 156 series hold 417 seasons and 3,950 episodes, carry about 436,000 votes on TMDB, with an average rating of 7.78, and 72 of them reach a rating of 8 or more. The most voted series of the guide is Stranger Things, with about 22,000 votes, ahead of Money Heist and Squid Game, and the best rated is Arcane, the animated series of the world of League of Legends, with an 8.7. The guide Start with WatchSeriesStream picks one series from each family for a first evening, and the guide How the originals were chosen sets out the rules.

The name of the site says what it offers: series, to stream. The old home page promised films and series of every kind, under a black banner and a yellow button; this guide keeps the black and the yellow and narrows the promise to a single kind of series, the one that the streaming age made its own. These are the series that were released a whole season at a time for an evening of binge-watching, the series that turned a service into a brand, and the series that made the names of a new generation of actors, from Millie Bobby Brown and Jenna Ortega to Anya Taylor-Joy and Pedro Pascal.

The three families

The first family, Netflix, holds the four shelves of the service that began the streaming original: Netflix drama and crime, Netflix science fiction and fantasy, Netflix comedy and Netflix around the world, for its series in other languages than English. Its 52 series carry about 231,000 votes, more than half of the votes of the guide, and the guide Netflix sums it up.

The second family, Prime Video and Hulu, holds the two older rivals of Netflix: Prime Video action and fantasy, Prime Video drama and comedy, Hulu drama and Hulu comedy. Its 52 series carry about 83,600 votes, and the guide Prime Video and Hulu sums it up.

The third family, The newer services, holds the services launched or relaunched from 2019 on: Apple TV+ originals, Disney+ originals, HBO Max originals and Paramount+ and Peacock. Its 52 series carry about 121,600 votes, most of them for the Marvel and Star Wars series of Disney+, and the guide The newer services sums it up.

Three more lists cut across the services. The first originals gathers the 26 series that began before 2018, oldest first, from House of Cards to the Marvel series of Netflix; Still returning gathers the 37 series that TMDB lists as still returning for new seasons; and Rated 8 or more gathers the 72 series with a rating of 8 or more, best first.

How the originals were chosen

A series belongs to a service in this guide when that service is the first network that TMDB lists for it. For each service, the pool held its series with that first network, reality shows, documentaries and children's series aside, as well as series that began in 2026, whose first seasons were still going out while this guide was made. Netflix, which has made more originals than any other service, was split into four shelves by genre and language, Prime Video and Hulu into two each, and Paramount+ and Peacock share a shelf. Each shelf then kept its thirteen most voted series.

The first network of TMDB is a practical rule with a few exceptions worth knowing. One series of the guide began elsewhere before a service took it over and made it its own: Money Heist, first shown on the Spanish channel Antena 3 in 2017 before Netflix released it to the world. Others were made by a studio that also owns a channel, such as the FX series released on Hulu. The guide follows TMDB in every case. Each card carries the name of its service on a dark band at the bottom of the poster. The guide The creators lists the creators who appear most often, and the guide The casts does the same for the actors.

Netflix

The first family of the guide holds 52 Netflix originals with about 231,000 votes and an average rating of 7.95, the best of the three families. Netflix began making its own series in 2013, and within five years it was releasing hundreds of hours of them a year, in every genre and in dozens of languages; the four shelves of the family follow that growth, from the political drama of House of Cards to the Korean survival game of Squid Game. Most of them were released a whole season at a time, ready for an evening or a weekend of binge-watching.

Netflix drama and crime

The shelf Netflix drama and crime gathers thirteen series from 2013 to 2022 with about 46,000 votes and an average rating of 7.99, and eleven of them reach 8. The most voted and the best rated is The Queen's Gambit, of 2020, by Scott Frank and Allan Scott, with an 8.4 and seven episodes: Anya Taylor-Joy plays Beth Harmon, an orphan of Kentucky in the 1950s and 1960s who becomes a chess prodigy, fighting her way to Moscow while battling her addictions. The oldest is House of Cards, of 2013, by Beau Willimon, the first great Netflix original, six seasons and 73 episodes of the rise of a Washington politician and his wife, played by Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.

Marvel holds three places, with the street-level heroes that Netflix gathered in its own corner of the Marvel world: Marvel's Daredevil, of 2015, with an 8.2, in which Charlie Cox plays a blind lawyer of Hell's Kitchen who fights crime at night, Marvel's The Punisher, of 2017, with an 8.2 and Jon Bernthal as the vigilante Frank Castle, and Marvel's Luke Cage, of 2016, with Mike Colter as a man with unbreakable skin in Harlem. Ozark, of 2017, with an 8.2, follows a financial adviser of Chicago, played by Jason Bateman, who moves his family to the lakes of the Missouri Ozarks to launder money for a Mexican cartel, with Laura Linney as his wife; The Crown, of 2016, by Peter Morgan, with an 8.2, six seasons and 60 episodes, tells the reign of Elizabeth II from her wedding to the early 2000s, with three actresses in the role, the last of them Imelda Staunton. Bridgerton, of 2020, with an 8.0, the only series of the shelf still returning, follows the eight siblings of a noble family of Regency London through the marriage seasons; The Haunting of Hill House, of 2018, by Mike Flanagan, with an 8.1 and ten episodes, follows the children of a family who grew up in a haunted mansion; and 13 Reasons Why, of 2017, with a 7.5, follows a high school student who receives the tapes left by a classmate before her death. The guide Netflix drama and crime sums it up.

Arcane, of 2021, with an 8.7, the best rated series of the guide, is an animated series set in the world of the game League of Legends: two orphaned sisters, Vi and Jinx, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell, end up on opposite sides of the war between the rich city of Piltover and its undercity.

Two more Marvel heroes of Netflix sit here, Marvel's Jessica Jones, of 2015, with Krysten Ritter as a private detective with super strength, and Marvel's Iron Fist, of 2017, with a 6.5, the lowest rated series of the shelf. The rest is science fiction for adults: Altered Carbon, of 2018, in which minds can be transferred from body to body, with Joel Kinnaman and then Anthony Mackie; Love, Death & Robots, of 2019, an animated anthology of short films produced by Tim Miller and David Fincher; and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, of 2022, with an 8.5, an anime of the Polish game studio CD Projekt and the Japanese studio Trigger, set in Night City. The best rated series of the shelf is The Mandalorian, of 2019, by Jon Favreau, with an 8.4 and three seasons, the first live-action Star Wars series: a lone bounty hunter, played by Pedro Pascal, takes under his protection a small green child of the species of Yoda, known to fans as Baby Yoda. Favreau also created The Book of Boba Fett, of 2021, with Temuera Morrison as the bounty hunter of the old films. Andor, of 2022, by Tony Gilroy, with an 8.3 and two seasons, tells the birth of the rebellion through a thief, played by Diego Luna, five years before Rogue One, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, of 2022, brings back Ewan McGregor as the Jedi in exile.

The other Marvel series continue the story of the films. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, of 2021, with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, passes on the shield of Captain America; Hawkeye, of 2021, pairs Jeremy Renner with a young archer, Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld, at Christmas in New York; Moon Knight, of 2022, gives Oscar Isaac a hero of several personalities; What If...?, of 2021, an animated anthology narrated by Jeffrey Wright, imagines other paths for the heroes of the films; and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, of 2022, Ms. Marvel, of 2022, and Secret Invasion, of 2023, with Samuel L. Jackson, close the list. Ms. Marvel, with a 6.3, and Secret Invasion, with a 6.4, are the lowest rated of the shelf after She-Hulk, with a 6.1. The guide Disney+ sums it up.

HBO Max originals

The shelf HBO Max originals gathers thirteen series from 2020 to 2023 with about 10,600 votes and an average rating of 7.25. These are the series made for the streaming service of Warner Bros., which took the name Max in 2023 and HBO Max again in 2025, rather than for the HBO channel itself, and they lean toward comedy. The most voted is Peacemaker, of 2022, by James Gunn, with an 8.2, level with Adventure Time: Distant Lands as the best rating of the shelf, and two seasons, in which John Cena plays the vigilante of the film The Suicide Squad, a man who loves peace so much that he will kill for it, with Danielle Brooks among his team; it opens with one of the most famous dance sequences of recent television.

The science fiction of the shelf begins with Raised by Wolves, of 2020, with a 7.5, in which two androids raise human children on a distant planet, produced by Ridley Scott, and continues with Station Eleven, of 2021, with ten episodes, the story of a travelling theatre company that performs Shakespeare twenty years after a pandemic has ended the old world. The comedies include Hacks, of 2021, with a 7.5 and five seasons, in which Jean Smart plays a veteran comedian of Las Vegas who hires a young writer, played by Hannah Einbinder; The Flight Attendant, of 2020, with Kaley Cuoco as a flight attendant who wakes up beside a dead man in Bangkok; The Sex Lives of College Girls, of 2021, by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble; Our Flag Means Death, of 2022, the comedy of the gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet, played by Rhys Darby, and Blackbeard, played by Taika Waititi; and And Just Like That…, of 2021, which brings back the women of Sex and the City in their fifties.

Two series of the shelf tell true crimes. Love & Death, of 2023, by David E. Kelley, with a 7.8, gives Elizabeth Olsen the role of Candy Montgomery, a churchgoing woman of Texas who killed her friend with an axe in 1980, and Tokyo Vice, of 2022, with a 7.9, follows an American reporter, played by Ansel Elgort, among the yakuza of Tokyo in the late 1990s, with Ken Watanabe as a detective. The animation of the shelf is the work of Cartoon Network veterans: Adventure Time: Distant Lands, of 2020, with an 8.2, four specials that continue the series of Pendleton Ward, and Close Enough, of 2020, by J.G. Quintel, about two young parents of Los Angeles; Velma, of 2023, with Mindy Kaling as the voice of the detective of Scooby-Doo, has a rating of 3.4, the lowest of the whole guide. The guide HBO Max sums it up.

Paramount+ and Peacock

The shelf Paramount+ and Peacock gathers thirteen series from 2021 to 2025, ten of Paramount+ and three of Peacock, with about 15,900 votes and an average rating of 8.05, the best of any shelf of the guide. Six of its ten Paramount+ series were created or co-created by Taylor Sheridan, the writer of Yellowstone, who built for the service a small world of westerns and crime. 1883, of 2021, with an 8.3 and ten episodes, follows the ancestors of the Dutton family of Yellowstone across the Great Plains in a wagon train, with Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and 1923, of 2022, with an 8.3, follows the next generation, with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, through drought and the Great Depression.

Sheridan's modern series are just as popular. Tulsa King, of 2022, with an 8.3, sends a mafia captain of New York, played by Sylvester Stallone, out of prison and into exile in Oklahoma, where he builds a new empire; Lioness, of 2023, with an 8.3, follows a CIA programme that places women undercover close to the families of terrorists, with Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman; Mayor of Kingstown, of 2021, with an 8.0, gives Jeremy Renner the role of the brother who keeps the peace between the prisons and the streets of a town of Michigan; and Landman, of 2024, with an 8.2, follows a fixer of the oil fields of west Texas, played by Billy Bob Thornton. The best rated series of the shelf, though, is British: MobLand, of 2025, by Ronan Bennett, with an 8.5, in which Tom Hardy plays the fixer of a London crime family led by Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren.

The rest of Paramount+ is science fiction and comedy: Halo, of 2022, with an 8.2 and about 3,300 votes, the most voted series of the shelf, brings the Master Chief of the video games to the screen with Pablo Schreiber; Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, of 2022, with a 7.9 and four seasons, follows Captain Pike, played by Anson Mount, at the helm of the Enterprise before Kirk; and iCarly, of 2021, brings back the web star of Nickelodeon as an adult. Peacock gives the shelf ted, of 2024, by Seth MacFarlane, with an 8.0, the teddy bear of the films in his teenage years in 1993; The Continental: From the World of John Wick, of 2023, three episodes set in the hotel of assassins in the 1970s, with Mel Gibson; and Twisted Metal, of 2023, with Anthony Mackie as a milkman who delivers across a lawless America. The guide Paramount+ and Peacock sums it up.

The creators

Taylor Sheridan is the creator of the guide, with six series, all of them on Paramount+: 1883, 1923, Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness and Landman, which together hold 138 episodes. David E. Kelley follows with three series on three services, Goliath on Prime Video, Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu and Love & Death on HBO Max, and David Weil with three on Prime Video and Apple TV+, Hunters, Citadel and Invasion. Jon Favreau created two Star Wars series, The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett; Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese made Dark and 1899 for Netflix; Ryan Murphy co-created DAHMER and American Horror Stories; and Neil Gaiman has two series, The Sandman, from his comics, and Good Omens, from his novel with Terry Pratchett. The guide The creators lists them.

The casts

Streaming series spread their actors thinly: counted on the cast lists of TMDB, the most frequent faces of the guide appear in three series each. Hailee Steinfeld is the most striking of them, with three very different roles, the voice of Vi in Arcane, the archer Kate Bishop in Hawkeye and the poet in Dickinson; Anthony Mackie appears in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Altered Carbon and Twisted Metal; J.K. Simmons in INVINCIBLE, Defending Jacob and Goliath; Danielle Brooks in Orange Is the New Black, Peacemaker and Close Enough; Michael Kelly in House of Cards, Jack Ryan and Lioness; and Wyatt Russell in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Monarch and Under the Banner of Heaven. Pedro Pascal leads two of the biggest series of the guide, Narcos and The Mandalorian. The guide The casts lists them.

Marvel and Star Wars

Two sagas cross the services. Marvel has sixteen series in the guide: five of the Netflix corner of Hell's Kitchen and Harlem, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher; two on Hulu, Runaways and M.O.D.O.K.; and nine on Disney+, from WandaVision to Secret Invasion. Star Wars has four, all on Disney+: The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor. The Lord of the Rings, the Addams Family, Godzilla, the world of John Wick, Star Trek and the games Halo, Fallout and League of Legends also gave the services their starting points. The guide Marvel and Star Wars sorts them.

The originals by year and language

By year of first season, the guide holds two series of 2013, one of 2014, five each of 2015 and 2016, thirteen of 2017, ten of 2018, nineteen of 2019, 23 of 2020, thirty of 2021, 28 of 2022, twelve of 2023, five of 2024 and three of 2025: the peak of 2021 and 2022 matches the years when every studio launched its own service. Most series are in English, 138 of the 156; the others are in Spanish, eight, Korean, four, German, three, Japanese, two, and French, one. Of the 156, 93 have ended, 26 were canceled and 37 are still returning, and 34 ran for a single season. The collection The first originals gathers the 26 series that began before 2018.

The look of WatchSeriesStream

The design follows the home page of watchseriesstream.com as the Internet Archive kept it from 2021 to 2026, with its style sheet of January 2023: a black page under a slim header of #121212 with the logo and the menu, a centred landing column with the name of the site in bold above a light heading, a wide white search box with a yellow button, and a rounded yellow button that grows and glows under the mouse, in the yellow #F5C518 of the movie databases. Its headings carry a small yellow dot, and the type is Montserrat, from light to bold. Here the twelve shelves become rounded buttons under the heading Choose a service, and each shelf is titled with the same yellow dot. The guide The look of WatchSeriesStream explains each colour.

Where to begin

For a first evening, start with one series from each family: Stranger Things for Netflix, The Boys for Prime Video and Hulu and Severance for the newer services. Then try the best rated series of each service: Arcane, INVINCIBLE, Love, Victor, Dickinson, The Mandalorian, Peacemaker and MobLand. Anyone who likes a short evening can take a limited series, from The Queen's Gambit to Black Bird, and anyone who likes the world can start with Dark, Money Heist or Squid Game.

How to use WatchSeriesStream

The home page opens with the introduction, the twelve shelves as buttons under Choose a service, and the rows of the shelves. Each button shows the family, the shelf and its number of series, and leads to its row; each row holds twelve posters and a View all button that opens the full shelf. The menu in the header leads to the three families, and the search box finds any series by its title; the guide Search tips explains how. Each poster carries the name of its service, and under it come the title, the first genre and the number of episodes.

The series page has the English synopsis, the seasons and episodes, the cast and the genres. The Watch now button opens the series on JustWatch, which shows the services that offer it in your country, and the button Add to My List keeps it in My list, stored in your browser. The guide How to use WatchSeriesStream explains each part, and the guide The Watch now button explains how JustWatch works.
